China Leads the Way in Wind Power Transmission
China is leading the global race in renewable energy technologies. It’s estimated that by 2020, 8% of all Chinese electricity generation capacity will derive from wind, solar, and biomass energy. China’s top leaders are focused intensely on innovating China’s energy policy.
To further this effort, China has completed an expansion project for a power converter station that will be the world’s largest direct-current back-to-back power station. The expansion will facilitate the flow of power from Northeast China to North China, and the station of origin will transfer as much as 3 million kilowatts of power.
In the past, Northeast China has had difficulty with power transfer. The expansion will improve the transference of power grids to Beijing, Tianjin, and Tangshan. The State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) said the project will also improve the Northeast’s wind power generation.
China has immense opportunity to invest in and propagate alternative energy solutions. Northeast China, alone, has plentiful wind sources. Estimated projections for the region’s wind power capacity may reach 24.34 million kilowatts which will demonstrate a total installed capacity increase of 17%.
If this project is deemed successful, China, no doubt, will continue to invest in alternative energy sources and may continue to lead the way in renewable energy.
